Our intention for the evening is to get people to talk about:

How do people in different communities think about the environment in general, and global warming in particular?

When we talk about environmental advocacy and taking action on global warming, what do we mean? What are our shared values, assumptions and intentions? What shared understanding do we want to foster? We have invited 5 community leaders who are working to lead initiatives in cultural outreach and in sustainability and climate change.  We think their presentations will be the inspiration for a thoughtful discussion by the audience.  We would like you to be there to share your perspectives and help us increase our understanding of our common concern: coming together to stop global warming.

Story Tellers include:

  • Cherrie Lam, Richmond high school student, winner of the 2010 BC Hydro Invent the Future Award, will talk about encouraging youth to reuse grey water.

  • Antonio Arreaga, Honorary Consul General, Costa Rica, will speak about perceptions of and responses to global warming in Central American countries.

  • T'Uy'Tanat-Cease Wyss, Ethnobotanist/Media Artist/Educator/Activist, Skwxw'u7mesh Nation, will talk about the pursuit of urban native food security as a response to climate change."
  • Joseph Lin, president, The Green Club, will talk about his work in promoting environmental awareness in Metro Vancouver's Mandarin speaking communities.
  • Linda Rubuliak, Manager, YMCA Connections, will talk about the Y's new Intercutural Garden as a vehicle for building bridges between cultural communities.
Presentations will be followed by a facilliated dialogue on emerging insights, burning questions, and take away challenges for intercultural collaboration and advocacy for climate action. Azmina Kassam will serve as facilitator, she participated in the launch in the UN Research Center for Expertise in Sustainability and Education. At the end of the evening we'd like to send people out into their communities with a challenge/action.

RangiChangi Roots: Many Cultures, One Climate

'Rangi Changi' is a Hindi/Punjabi/Nepalese saying which means diversity, many colours, and vibrancy. Our website is on the way, and in the meantime you can follow us on our blog: www.RangiChangi.ca Twitter @RangiChangi and on our Facebook group page.   Thank you for your continued interest and support in building bridges between community, NGOs and action on climate change!

Cheers,
